Start by picking one of our colleges...
Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) operates two separate colleges: Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, and Marshalltown Community College in Marshalltown. We also operate Iowa Valley Grinnell, a satellite campus of MCC located about 30 miles southeast of Marshalltown.
Before you can take the next steps, you need to pick a college/campus. If you've already done that, great! Skip down to the links below for the college/campus of your choice, and you're on your way.
If you haven't picked a college/campus yet, we suggest you consider the following:
-
Do you live closest to Iowa Falls, Marshalltown, or Grinnell? If you need to come to campus for any reason, perhaps it would be handy to travel to the closest one.
-
Is your desired degree program only offered at one college/campus or another? If so, that's where you need to apply for admission. If not, then the degree program is not a deciding factor for you.
-
Do you have any other preference for one college/campus over another? Even though you're an "online student," you may occasionally need to go to the campus for such things as on-site testing, tutoring, to meet with a faculty member, etc.
-
If these factors are not helpful in your consideration, we suggest you contact online advisor Chris Russell (contact information is below) for assistance.

About adding/dropping classes
Students may make schedule changes through the first week of a full (16-week) or half-term semester without consequences. Beginning the second week of class (full or half-term semester): Tuition will be assessed; adding a course will require instructor approval; courses dropped will be listed on the student’s transcript with the grade “W” (withdrew); and a $5 processing fee will be applied to any schedule change (Drop, Add, or Audit to Credit). Tuition refunds are based upon the date of “official withdraw,” not upon the last date of attendance.
Charges for withdrawal during summer, special sessions, or condensed sessions will be charged as of the second day of class. Additional information regarding refunds of tuition due to withdrawal, including the refund schedule for interim and summer sessions, can be found under “Tuition Refund Policy” in the college catalog.
Failure to submit official course withdraw (Add/Drop Form) to the Registrar's Office will result in a grade "F" recorded on the student's transcript.
Online students: Students who are unable to submit Add/Drop Form and processing fee in person may email the Add/Drop request to the Registrar’s Office, using their IVCCD student e-mail account and including their student ID number. Payment of the processing fee must be made by phone (credit card) through Student Accounts.
Your online advisor
All ECC, MCC and IVG students are assigned an academic advisor. All online/distance learning students are assigned to Chris Russell, who can be reached by phone at 641-844-5716 or by e-mail at Chris.Russell@iavalley.edu. Depending on your degree program, you'll also be assigned a faculty advisor ... Chris will help with that process.
