IVCCD Bond Issue Update

Career Academy program expansions

IVCCD currently offers several Career Academy programs for area high school students. The participating high school juniors and seniors can take career and technical courses through Marshalltown Community College, Ellsworth Community College or Iowa Valley Grinnell and get both high school and MCC/ECC credit. Current Career Academies being offered include the following:
  • At Ellsworth Community College – Agriculture/Swine Management, Biotechnology, Business & Information Technology, Construction, and Health Occupations.
  • At Marshalltown Community College – Broadcast Technology, Computer Networking, Construction, Diversified & Entrepreneurial Agriculture, Early Childhood Education, Health Occupations, Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Design, Retail Management, and Tool & Die.
  • At Iowa Valley Grinnell – Ag Business, Health Occupations, Industrial Maintenance, Business Administration, and Broadcast Technology.

In the interest of meeting new and changing needs of area high schools and their students, IVCCD has committed $250,000 of its bond issue funds to the development of additional Career Academy programs or enhancing existing programs. The money has been used primarily for equipment and preparation of students in automotive programming, business/computer programming, and agriculture course articulations across the District. The colleges have collaborated with area high school administrators and faculty members regarding the use of these funds to articulate the high school programming with the college Career Academies.
