The clothing industry represents a large segment of the economy and there are many fashion-related positions in the field of retailing. If you are drawn to the fashion world, are creative and interested in the business side, Fashion Merchandising is an exciting and rewarding field to enter. Fashion merchandisers combine the advertising, marketing and retail know-how of the marketer with the creativity of the designer. They anticipate consumer preferences and can ensure that goods are in stock when they are needed. That requires resourcefulness, good judgment and self-confidence.
Job outlook
Employment of advertising, marketing, and sales managers is expected to grow at an above-average rate. Domestic and global competition in consumer products is intense, requiring greater marketing efforts. Most job opportunities are in metropolitan areas however jobs exist in many communities, which have apparel stores. Persons who have new media and interactive marketing skills will be highly sought after employees.
