Job outlook
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (2007) suggests that employment opportunities within the sports industry are expected to grow more than 15% from 2006 to 2016, exceeding the growth rate of most other occupations. A significant portion of that growth will occur in the more than 24,000 athletics departments at the high school level, both public and private. Employing over 300,000 coaches and administrators, as a business segment, interscholastic athletics contributes over $15 billion to the sport industry in the United States.
