As the size of agricultural equipment continues to increase, it has become harder to load and transport the equipment to a dealer's location. Today, more than ever, dealers are required to provide services at the customer's location. The Mobile Service Technician degree program is designed to assist agricultural equipment dealers and service organizations in providing quality service to agricultural producers in the field.
A trained Mobile Service Technician will diagnose, repair, and service agricultural equipment in rural locations using a specially equipped service truck.
Ellsworth's Mobile Service Technician program is unique because students will spend considerable time on various components that are not typically covered or addressed. ECC-trained Mobile Service Technicians will not only have the ability to repair a unit, but will also be capable of operating and training others on the operation of the unit. They will be product specialists in the field.
Those with certificates from vocational schools or two-year degrees from community colleges should have very good job opportunities, as employers strongly prefer these candidates. Those without formal training will have difficulty finding jobs.
By the numbers ...
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2012 median pay for Mobile Service Technicians is $43,820 per year. From 2012 to 2022, the job outlook is expected to grow by 9%, which is about as fast as average.
