Music
Career
Musicians play instruments, sing, compose, arrange or conduct instrumental or vocal groups. They also use computer technology to compose, edit, digitize and electronically alter the sound of musical compositions. Musicians need extensive and prolonged training to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to interpret music. Musical talent, self-discipline, creativity, and poise are necessary qualities of a musician.
Job outlook
Competition for musician, singer and related careers is intense as talent alone is not a guarantee of success. The number of persons with the desire to perform will exceed the number of openings in the future although the overall employment is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2016. Those who can play several instruments and types of music should enjoy the best job prospects.
