Ellsworth Community College announces $5,000 agriculture scholarships

IOWA FALLS - Ellsworth Community College will offer three $5,000 Commitment to Agriculture scholarships for the 2010-2011 academic year. These scholarships are designed for students entering production agriculture, enrolled in agriculture business, animal science, farm management, swine confinement management, or the renewable energy technology programs. These awards were made possible with interest money from gifts made by Bob and Arlene Hamilton, Bruce Rastetter and the Ellsworth College Foundation.

Applicants for the scholarship must be Iowa residents and have a good academic record. Students must show evidence of leadership through involvement in clubs or organizations such as FFA, 4-H, church, or other civic activities. Students are also asked to provide a written description of their work experience in agriculture, their reason for pursuing this field, and their goals in agriculture.

Other sources of financial aid will be considered so students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Other items required are a high school transcript and the names and addresses of two references addressing character and work ethic. Awards of $2,500 each semester will be made with renewal for the second semester contingent upon satisfactory performance.

The deadline for applications is Feb. 1, 2010. Application (pdf)
