Scholarship Opportunities at ECC

The Ellsworth College Foundation, the Ellsworth College Board of Trustees, and the IVCCD Board of Directors offer scholarships and grants to gifted and well-qualified students. These scholarships may be combined with need-based financial aid and local scholarships to ensure many worthy students will find a college education within their budget.

Ellsworth Academic Scholarships

Ellsworth Academic Scholarships are renewable awards for full-time freshmen with ACT composite scores of 23 or higher and high school GPAs of 3.00 and higher. Transfer students are eligible for these scholarships if they meet the criteria and have a college GPA of 3.00 or higher.

Total academic scholarship amounts may be a combination of Ellsworth Foundation scholarships and Ellsworth Trustee scholarships that follow the guidelines as listed below:

Ellsworth General Scholarships

Ambassador Scholarships - Recipients will serve as representatives for Ellsworth Community College. Individuals selected will serve as hosts at college functions such s Family Day, Homecoming, Career Exploration Day, Counselor Day, etc. Ambassadors will also be asked to serve as guides for campus visitors, do some public speaking, participate in promotional parades, and promote ECC to prospective students. Ambassadors can expect to telephone prospective students and even visit their home high schools as an ECC representative. The $1,000 Ambassador Scholarships are renewable and competitive; recipients may receive other Ellsworth scholarships as long as the scholarship total does not exceed the student's actual college bill. Requirements: Full-time enrollment, one reference, and an interview. Priority Deadline: March 1.

Department Scholarships - Ellsworth Department Scholarships ranging from $200 to $1,000 are available to new students. Students must show particular aptitude in their field of study. Direct all inquiries to Department Heads (Agriculture, Business, etc.). Priority Deadline: Feb. 1 (for fall semester).

Housing Grants - These non-renewable Ellsworth College Trustee grants are available to help with on-campus living expenses. Awards range from $200-$1,000. Requirements: Application for Admission, scholarship application, one recommendation, high school transcript.

IVCCD Director's Scholarships - The Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors funds these full tuition and fees scholarships (up to 18 credits per term). Applicants must graduate from an Iowa high school and be designated as Valedictorian or Salutatorian (rank 1 or 2) of their class. Transfer students are eligible if they meet the above criteria and have a 3.00 college GPA. These scholarships are renewable for a second year for full-time students with a 3.00 GPA. Requirements: Rank one or two in graduating class from an Iowa high school. A copy of the applicant's high school transcript is required. Priority Deadline: March 1.

Leadership Scholarships - Awarded to high school seniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership ability in school clubs, athletics, activities, civic and community organizations, or church groups. Scholarships are non-renewable from $200 to $1,000. Requirements: Full-time enrollment, high school transcript, high school GPA 2.50 or higher, scholarship application, one recommendation.

Legacy Scholarships - Offered to children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of past ECC graduates. Awards will be $500 per year with potential renewal for second year based on availability of funds. Requirements: New student, full-time enrollment, scholarship application, one recommendation.

Meritorious Scholarships - Awarded to graduating high school seniors who have a 3.00 or better GPA or a composite ACT score of 23+, these non-renewable scholarships range from $200 to $400. Requirements: Scholarship application and one recommendation.

PIN (People in Need) Grants - Available as a response to the recent increases in college costs across the state. Eligibility will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Those with minimal other gift assistance, along with demonstrated financial barriers, will receive priority consideration. Grants range from $300 to $1,000.

Sophomore Achievement Scholarship - Offered to second-year students who were not eligible for an academic or director's scholarship as a freshman and who have earned 24 ECC credits with a minimum GPA of 3.50. Scholarships will be for the fall and spring semester must be enrolled full-time. Students who are eligible for this scholarship will not be eligible for the Sophomore Scholarship. Requirements: Scholarship application, one recommendation. Deadline: Friday before spring break.

Sophomore Scholarships - Available to second year ECC students who have earned at least 24 ECC credits with a minimum GPA of 2.50. Scholarships are for the fall and spring semesters. Requirements: Full-time enrollment and reference from one Ellsworth professor. Priority Deadline: Friday before spring break.

Career & Technical Scholarships - Awarded to graduating high school seniors who enroll in ECC career option or career education programs. The grants range from $200 to $1,000 and are non-renewable. Eligible majors include Accounting, Agriculture, Biotechnology, Business Administration, Computer Network Management, Computer Science, Construction Technology, Conservation Technology, Criminal Justice, Equine Management, Fashion Merchandising, Fire Science, Laboratory Technology, Marketing, Masonry, Merchandising & Retail Management, Microsoft Office Specialist, Nursing, Office Administration/Computer Applications, Office Practitioner, Small Business Practitioner, and Swine Practitioner. Requirements: Major in a career option or vocational program, scholarship application, high school transcript, and one recommendation. Application Priority Deadline: Mar. 1.

Ellsworth Activity & Athletic Scholarships

Ellsworth Art Scholarships
These scholarships are for students who have demonstrated exceptional talent in art and are majoring in Art, Design, or Art Education. Requirements include an Application for Admission, a scholarship application, one recommendation, and a portfolio or slides/prints of creative work. The awards range in value from $200 to $500. Direct inquiries to the ECC Art Department.

Ellsworth Music Scholarships
These activity scholarships are for new students who have demonstrated exceptional talent in vocal or instrumental music. The awards are for one year only and range in value from $200 to $500. Recipients need not major in music but must participate in ECC music activities. Requirements include an Application for Admission, a scholarship application, one recommendation, and either a live audition or audio tape. Direct inquiries to the ECC Music Department.

Ellsworth Athletic Scholarships
Ellsworth athletic scholarships are awarded for both women's (softball, basketball, golf, volleyball and cross country) and men's (baseball, basketball, cross country, football, wrestling, and golf) intercollegiate athletics. Scholarships are renewable and are awarded by the head coach of each sport in amounts ranging from $200 up to full tuition. Direct inquiries to the specific team coach or the ECC Athletic Director.

Ellsworth Cheerleading/Dance Scholarships
Cheerleading/dance scholarships are available for students interested in these activities. Requirements include an Application for Admission, a scholarship application, one recommendation, and a live (or tape) performance review. Direct inquiries to the ECC Admissions Office.

Ida Caine Bryant Music Scholarships
These scholarships, ranging in value up to $1,344, are available to new students with preference to those who have an interest in music. Recipients will also participate in vocal or instrumental music while enrolled full-time. Application priority date is March 1. Requirements include an audition or tape review. Ellsworth Drama Scholarships
These activity scholarships are for new students who have successful theater experience and have demonstrated their dramatic talents. Recipients need not major in Drama but would be expected to participate in Ellsworth drama activities. The awards are non-renewable and range in value from $200 to $500. Requirements include an Application for Admission, a scholarship application, one recommendation, and a live (or tape) performance review. Direct inquiries to the ECC Theater Department.

Raymond Burr Theater Scholarship
This scholarship was established in honor of the late actor Raymond Burr (TV's Perry Mason & Ironside), who spoke at ECC's Centennial Celebration in 1990 and publicly acknowledged his support of the college. This $442 scholarship is available to new students who have demonstrated exceptional thespian performances. An audition, review, or videotape review is required of applicants, and participation in ECC drama productions and club activities is expected. Application priority date is March 1. Silver Bowl Scholarship
This renewable scholarship is awarded to a football player in the amount of $712. Direct inquiries to ECC Athletic Director.

Gene Tystahl Athletic Scholarship
The Gene Tystahl Scholarship is awarded to an athlete in the amount of $827. Direct inquiries to ECC Athletic Director.

Glennon Warford Scholarship (English/Social Studies & Athletics)
The Glennon Warford Scholarship is a $538 award for new students majoring in English or Social Studies and participating in athletics. An Application for Admission is required, and transcripts from all schools previously attended. The recipient will be selected by the Dean of the College. Application priority date is March 1.

Rocky & Christie Weaver Athletic Scholarship
This athletic scholarship is awarded to new students who are graduates of an Iowa high school. Scholarship amount can be up to full tuition and fees. Recipient is selected by the Ellsworth Athletic Department and Ellsworth "E" Club. Direct inquiries to ECC Athletic Director.

Ellsworth Specialized Scholarships

Ellsworth Multi-Cultural Scholarships
These scholarships, ranging in amounts up to $750, are awarded to new and returning students who meet the academic criteria and are members of a minority race. Applications are available in the ECC Counseling Center.

Church Women United Scholarship
Two scholarships of $300 each are awarded for second semester tuition. Recipients must be either graduates of Iowa Falls-Alden High School or area non-traditional students. Application priority date is Nov. 1. Direct inquiries to the ECC Student Services Office.

Iowa Falls Business & Professional Women Scholarship
The Iowa Falls Business & Professional Women Scholarship is awarded to an Iowa Falls-Alden High School graduate or a non-traditional student residing within a 30-mile radius of Iowa Falls returning to college after two or more years out of high school. The scholarship is in the amount of $300, and will be awarded the second semester of the school year. Recipients must submit an application form, high school transcript and three recommendations (at least one of which is from a current or former employer). Application priority date is November 1. Robert Ellingson Memorial Scholarship
This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Iowa Falls-Alden High School who has participated in either golf or baseball at Iowa Falls High School. Direct inquiries to the IF-AHS Guidance Office.

Plugger's Prize
The Plugger's Prize scholarship is awarded to one high school graduate each from Alden and Iowa Falls. These $1,660 awards will be made to students who do not quite meet the criteria for an ECC Academic Scholarship but who demonstrate motivation, desire, and a work ethic while in high school. Direct inquiries to an IFAHS counselor.

Riverside Book & Bible Scholarship
This scholarship is available to an ECC student whose parent or legal guardian was a full-time employee of Riverside-World Book House. Awards range up to $922. Direct inquiries to the ECC Admissions Office.

Grace Hibner American Legion Award
This $500 academic scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in a medically-related field. Applicants must be an Iowa Falls-Alden High School graduate or enrolled at Ellsworth Community College and have completed at least one semester of college. Iowa Falls Order of Odd Fellows Scholarship
This full tuition scholarship is awarded to a student showing financial need and demonstrating scholarly achievement. Selection is made by the IFAHS faculty.

Iowa Falls Rotary Club Scholarship
The Iowa Falls Rotary Club Scholarship is awarded for full tuition for the second semester to a student nominated by IFAHS faculty.

Jane Anderson Memorial Scholarship
This $442 scholarship is awarded to a student attending ECC. Selection made by Iowa Falls-Alden High School.

R.W. Barlow Memorial Scholarship
This $500 scholarship is awarded to a student selected by IFAHS faculty and the Barlow family.

Iowa Falls Lions Club
The Lions Club awards one full-year tuition scholarship and one second semester tuition scholarship to students who have maintained a 2.00 minimum GPA at IFAHS and through the first semester at ECC. Consideration of a student's citizenship and student activities is also given. Nine students will be recommended by IFAHS faculty to the Lions Club Board of Directors.

Scenic City Kiwanis Club
This $500 scholarship is given for second semester tuition at ECC to a student who maintains a 2.00 minimum GPA for the first semester at ECC. Selection is also based on a student's need, ideals, attitude, inquisitive nature and self-discipline. Preference is given for a child or grandchild of a Kiwanis Club member. The IFAHS faculty will submit three names to the Kiwanis Club for final selection.

Iowa Falls Association of Independent Insurance Agents Grant
Two students will receive $300 ($150 per semester) based on financial need. Final selection will be made by the Association based on 10 nominees from IFAHS faculty.

Nissly and Nissly
This $300 scholarship is given to an entering ECC agriculture student for second semester tuition. Nissly and Nissly chooses the recipient.

F.B. Rausenberger Memorial
This $300 scholarship is given to a student who shows financial need, has maintained a 2.5 GPA and is active in athletics during high school. Selection is made by IFAHS faculty.

E.O. Ellsworth
Students ranking in the upper one-fourth of the class are eligible for this $200 scholarship to be applied to second semester tuition at ECC. The student will be selected by IFAHS faculty based also on character, leadership and loyalty.

Kenneth W. Hecht Memorial
This $200 scholarship for second semester ECC tuition is awarded to a student showing financial need who is entering ECC as a business student. The IFAHS faculty will nominate students to the Board of Trustees.

Myrln Bartling Memorial
A student who is entering an agricultural field at ECC and who displays financial need is eligible for this $100 scholarship to be applied to second semester tuition. The IFAHS faculty chooses the recipient.
