Student Spotlight
December
Student Spotlight Nominee
The STUDENT
LEADERS would like to congratulate Ben Olsen for being nominated by our student
body as this month’s Student Spotlight Winner.
Ben is the 3rd youngest of eleven children, and 6th
to continue his education. He is married
with 2 children. He is a custom
woodworker by trade. Woodworking is also
a hobby as well as, bicycling, hunting, and the occasional painting/drawing.
Ben started
attending Iowa Valley Grinnell in January of 2009. He is working towards his AA in Industrial
Maintenance Technology. He chose Iowa
Valley Grinnell because if offered the course study he was interested in that
he couldn’t find offered elsewhere. He
is an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa, as well as a STUDENT LEADER. He enjoys Iowa Valley Grinnell because of the
comfortable, at home atmosphere. He says
it makes you feel welcome.
His future
plans are to obtain employment in his field of study and possibly continue in
his education.
Ben’s words of advice are “stay focused,
organized, and be prepared. To succeed
isn’t achieving your goals; it’s surpassing your goals and all expectations.”
November
Student Spotlight Nominee
The STUDENT
LEADERS would like to congratulate Rachel Romero for being nominated by our
student body as this month’s Student Spotlight Winner. Rachel is the Assistant
Manager at the Strand Theater here in Grinnell. When she is not working or at
school she enjoys spending time with her sister and reading.
Rachel started attending Iowa Valley Grinnell
in spring of ’09. She is working towards her AA in Liberal Arts. She chose Iowa
Valley Grinnell to attend college because it was close to home and we have a
great reputation for having great instructors and a great atmosphere. What she
enjoys most about Iowa Valley Grinnell is that the instructors, staff, and
fellow students are very laid back and it is a friendly place to attend school.
Rachel’s words of
advice are “take things one day at a time.”
