Health: Childbirth Education
Lamaze Prepared Childbirth
Lamaze classes prepare a couple for labor, delivery, and the hospital stay. Topics include: relaxation and breathing techniques, normal labor course, medical interventions, cesarean birth, post-delivery care for mom and baby, breast and bottle feeding and parenthood. Classes meet once a week for five weeks in the MMSC OB classroom in Marshalltown. The cost is payable to co-sponsor MMSC. Call 641-754-5166 to register.

Mom/Baby Breastfeeding Session
This informal session provides support and interaction between breast-feeding mothers. A group discussion is led and facilitated by Beckie Fricke, Certified Lactation Consultant. All sessions are held in the MMSC OB classroom. Register with co-sponsor MMSC at 641-754-5166.

Prenatal Breastfeeding
Couples considering whether to breast-feed their infant are encouraged to attend this class that meets the week after the last Lamaze class of each series. It is free for couples who attend Lamaze. You will learn about the pros and cons of breast-feeding, milk production, and nursing techniques from instructor Beckie Fricke who is a Certified Lactation Consultant. Co-sponsor: MMSC. Sibling Class
This class is designed for children 2 - 8 years old who will soon become a big brother or sister. Topics include separation from mom during hospitalization, characteristics of a newborn, safety, sibling rivalry, and a tour of the unit. One adult is expected to stay with the child during class.
