College Boot Camp
What do you need to know to look like a college student, feel like a college student, act like a college student? Not all college students are scholars, but after this course, you’ll either be a scholar or know what it takes to be a scholar. Not all college students are good students, but after this course, you’ll either be a good student or you’ll know why you aren’t. There are certain fundamental tools you must have in your tool chest to be a successful student or scholar at any level. They give students the confidence and capability to obtain success in college and beyond. Commit to College Boot Camp to return successfully to college after a break or hone the skills you wish you’d formed in high school. It’s never too late or too early to take this workshop. Learn how to maximize time to accomplish more than ever, how to tackle biases and attitudes holding you back, how to take a test, take notes, organize your life, find time to study, do research using modern libraries, write a report or make a presentation with confidence, all the while learning how to communicate using an academic style. Completely transform or simply give yourself a boost. Day 1 (Thursday) will cover effective listening and note-taking, test-taking skill, and include an academic writing exercise. Day 2 (Friday) will cover planning and writing a research paper, using a library to research a topic, plagiarism and proper citation. Day 3 (Saturday) will cover effective time and stress management when time seems to be in short supply, organizing information, and writing a paper. Each day will include a writing exercise and lessons about embracing change. Registration is by day.
