Basic Computer Programming
In this course, you will learn the essential concepts to be able to write and run a program on your Windows computer. We will begin with a brief overview of how a computer understands the instructions in a program, and then move on to writing actual programs of increasing complexity. We will cover such topics as displaying output to the console, processing input from the keyboard, reading files from disk and writing information to files, the use of functions and subroutines and interaction with databases. Approximately half of each class will be devoted to the introduction and explanation of a new topic with the second devoted to hands on effort using the concepts introduced. Students are encouraged to suggest programs they would like to develop for personal use as the goal of class completion. A general familiarity with computers and standard programs such Microsoft Word or Excel is all that is required for this course. If you have ever wanted to learn how to build a computer program, this class will teach you how!
