2011 NEC Update
This 6-hour course covers the significant changes in the latest edition of the National Electrical Code. These changes include three new articles dealing with Outdoor, Overhead Conductors, Over 600 Volts (399), Small Wind Electric Systems (694) and Premises-Powered Broadband Communications Systems (840). Also covered will be the major changes in the Introduction and all nine chapters of the codebook. This is a state approved re-licensure class for electricians. Participant will need to bring a copy of the 2011 National Electrical Code, highlighters, notebook and pencils.

Lagoon Operations
Operators will learn how different types of lagoons treat wastewater, how to maintain their systems, what the regulatory requirements are, along with how to conform to their permit by proper sampling and testing. Operators will recognize the problems that arise with lagoons and what solutions are available to them to solve problems such as odors, high laboratory test results and cold weather operations. Be sure to pre-register for classes with co-sponsor Kirkwood Community College, $125/person. 0.5 Wastewater Recertification.

Lead Safe Renovator 4 Hour Initial
This is a 4-hour course for persons who have been previously trained in “Lead-Safe Work Practices.” This course can substitute the 8 hr course if a renovator has previously had the departments lead safe work practices class and has a training certificate to verify it. This class is also used as a three year refresher course for certified renovators to maintain their active certification status. It reviews specific work practices that are lead-safe, and describes prohibited work practices when performing renovations. It also provides renovators a review on proper set up, clean up and on-the-job training for non certified workers including 2 hrs of hands on exercises. It highlights Federal and State specific regulations that must be followed as a certified renovator, and provides examples of how to maintain and document required reports. It is a course to prepare renovators for certification, or to maintain certification. At the end of the course there will be an exam that requires a score of 80% or better, once completed participants will be eligible to apply or reapply for certification with the Iowa Department of Public Health. This course is also approved by the PMSB for 4 hours of Safety for relicensure.

LEED Green Associate Exam Preparation

Motor Controls
This 8-hour course introduces the student to motor control schematic symbols, ladder diagrams, control devices, relays, timers, contactors and starters. Learn basic control circuits, including: pilot control, single and multiple start-stop, jogging, reversing, reduced voltage starting, interlocking and braking circuits. Practice wiring circuits in a laboratory setting using actual control devices. Participants will need to bring a notebook, pencils, safety glasses, multi-meter, wire strippers, screwdrivers, long nosed pliers and wiring schematics or control drawings from your facility (if possible).
