Iowa Valley Leadership began in 1987 as a response to the question, "Who will take the place of the community's long-standing leaders?"
“Iowa Valley Leadership provides an opportunity for people to come together synergistically in order to learn more about our community. This knowledge, along with focused team building helps us work together as leaders in order to make the future of Marshalltown even better than it is today. This opportunity is a must for anyone passionate about our community’s future,"
Bobby Shomo, Koehler Insurance

Leadership Iowa Falls Experience/LIFE
Individuals working or living in the Iowa Falls area are encouraged to participate in Leadership Iowa Falls Experience (LIFE). LIFE targets individuals who are in positions of leadership in their organizations or who have “stepped up to the plate” in community roles.
Through this dynamic 8-month learning experience, team members gain:
- greater appreciation of issues facing today's leaders
- applied understanding of one's leadership strengths
- increased confidence for seeking and leading change
- valuable links to people in diverse leadership roles
- interpersonal growth & hands-on practice using leadership skills
- commitment to action for community well-being
The 2010-2011 LIFE participants are selected on the basis of their application, their commitment, and their potential for leadership.

Without the support of the local business community, LIFE would not be successful.
“As a new resident of the Iowa Falls community, the LIFE class experience was a great way to learn about the community and meet the people and businesses that define the town. I had no idea what the community had to offer and I probably know more about this town than I do about the community I grew up in. It was a great opportunity to get to know other people who were in the class with me and create some new relationships with them.”
–Kevin Sanders, Iowa Select Farms, LIFE 2009 Graduate
The LIFE program is co-sponsored by Iowa Valley Continuing Education and Iowa Falls Chamber/Main Street Inc. For more information, contact Deb Sabin at 641-648-8621.
