Iowa Valley Leadership/IVL
Marshall County residents may participate in the well-established and highly successful Iowa Valley Leadership (IVL) program. IVL believes that community vitality depends on individuals who commit to learn about critical local issues and engage in influencing change.
Participants meet once a month, September through May, to explore a variety of community and leadership issues such as:economic development, education, environment, the Gems of Marshalltown, government, history, immigration, law enforcement, legislation, poverty, wellness, and workforce. The curriculum is designed by a steering committee whose members represent IVL alumni, IVCCD, the Chamber of Commerce, and leading community citizens. Interaction is encouraged through experiential learning opportunities and the inclusion of a wide variety of guests at each session.
"Be Prepared To Open Your Eyes! This might sound like an off-the-wall quote, but class after class, I left with a feeling of WOW! It's so easy to not see the things that are so close to you if it doesn’t really affect you: our justice system, poverty, early development and how it affects children when they don't get the attention they need, drugs, and basically what's going on around town."
Shaness Hart, Assistant Branch Manager, US Bank, N. A.
