MCC Cross Country

MCC welcomes Cross Country program

Marshalltown Community College may have the only cross country course in the nation that is built on a certified organic farm. A new cross country course was a community partnership between Marshalltown Community College (MCC) and the Marshalltown Community School District and was completed in the summer of 2009. When construction at the Iowa Veterans Home grounds was announced, Marshalltown High School had to find a new location to host its annual invitational. MCC was approached and together a plan was put in place.

The course was designed by Tim Bell, MHS Athletics Director, with a true concept of cross country – a trail running through the country side; 3.1 miles for boys and 2.5 miles for girls. Its single purpose makes it a very spectator friendly location. The course also opened the door for a new cross country program at Marshalltown Community College. The MCC team, coached by Jarret Heil, did not host a home meet this fall; however it hopes to get on the schedule in the future. Coach Heil said, “It’s a fantastic course. The team loves being out there.”
