Steps to Admission
-
Fill out the online Application for Admission form. There is a separate Application for Admission form for International Students.
-
Request that your official high school/GED and any other previous college transcripts be sent to the MCC Admissions Office.
-
Submit ACT, COMPASS or ASSET scores. See below for more information.
In addition to these requirements, there are several other steps you may find helpful including financial aid applications, visiting the college, and career advising.
Certain programs require additional admission requirements. Please contact the Admissions Office for more information.

Students intending to complete a diploma or degree program are required to submit high school or GED transcripts. Students applying for financial aid must have a high school or GED transcript on file in the Admissions Office.
Students who want to take a class to transfer back to their primary college, or just need a course for personal interest, only need to submit an application for admission. MCC refers to these students as “Guests.”
Students currently enrolled in high school should have a 6th or 7th semester transcript sent and arrange to have a final transcript sent following graduation.
A transcript from each college previously attended (if any) must be provided. These must be "official transcripts," with college seal, sent directly from the college. It will be evaluated to see if any of the coursework will transfer into MCC.
What are these tests?
ACT or COMPASS scores are used for placement in classes; they are NOT admissions tests. ACT scores are not required for admission but may be submitted in place of taking MCC’s COMPASS test.
In many instances, high schools make a record of ACT scores and the scores are part of the high school transcript (applicants should check with the high schools to see if this is the case). If the scores are not available from the high school, they may be obtained by contacting the ACT Records Department, PO Box 451, Iowa City, IA 52240, and paying a fee to ACT. Score results need to be within the last 5 years.
The COMPASS test is offered through MCC’s Admissions Office. Contact Amy Good.
IVCCD has a mandatory placement policy which means the results of your test will determine which classes you may take in certain subjects. Please refer to the COMPASS and ACT Cut-Off Score Chart to see where you place. Your advisor can help interpret your scores if needed. There are re-testing and appeal options if you feel your scores do not accurately reflect your abilities. Please contact the Admissions Office for more information. To locate a testing center nearest you, contact ACT at 1-800-645-1992 between 8:30 am to 5 pm EST.
