Career
Think about your favorite teacher and what qualities he or she has that make you appreciate them. Your answers will tell you what makes a good teacher. Those qualities include the ability to communicate, inspire trust and confidence, and motivate. A teacher must be knowledgeable about a subject and be able to recognize and respond to individual differences in students. A teacher should be dependable, patient and creative. Technology skills are also important.
Job outlook
The number of teachers retiring in the next 10 years will make job opportunities promising. The job market varies by school location, subject specialty, geographic location, and enrollments. Employment also depends on state and local expenditures for education and legislation that increases the quality of education. Teacher assistants are projected to have the tenth largest job growth among all occupations over the next 10 years.
