Career
Graphic Design is a part of our everyday life. Dictionary.com defines graphic design as “the art or profession of visual communication that combines images, words, and ideas to convey information to an audience.” If you have the ability to communicate effectively, have creative problem-solving skills, and are technically savvy, this is the field for you. This dynamic field is evident in everything from web design and digital media presentations to print-based publications, package design and corporate identity. Students who pursue this career develop creative problem solving skills using basic design, illustration, photo manipulation and typography.
Job outlook
Graphic Design has seen dramatic growth in the past five years, and the field is growing. Rapid growth has been seen in the fields of video game design, digital and new media design. Graphic designers with website design, computer programming expertise, and animation experience will have especially good job prospects. Employment of graphic designers is expected to grow about as fast as average for all occupations. Demand for graphic design continues to grow in areas such as advertising, publishing and educational media as well as the entertainment and new media development areas. Because of the rapidly expanding market for web-based information and expansion of the video entertainment market, including television, movies, and video, this career demands technically proficient designers.
