Medical Office Practitioner
Career
A variety of office and computer skills are needed in today's rapidly changing, high-tech health care office environment. Medical office jobs are also known as ambulatory jobs, or jobs in outpatient care. Both clinical and non-clinical jobs are available in medical office settings.
Job outlook
Medical office jobs have remained in very high demand, even in times of recession or economic downtimes. Prospects are greatest for those who have knowledge of basic computer applications and office machinery. Most job opportunities result from employment growth and high replacement needs.
Gainful employment reporting
Beginning July 1, 2011, the U.S. Department of Education began requiring colleges to disclose a variety of information for any financial aid eligible certification program that “prepares students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation.” The information provided here represents only one year’s data but will be updated as more information becomes available.
For MCC’s Medical Office Practitioner program, of the 5 program completers in FY12 who responded to a survey, 3 were employed in a related or unrelated field at the time of the survey, for a respondent placement rate of 60%. It took the completers two terms to finish the program, for an on-time program completion rate of 0%. Of the 5 completers, the median loan debt was $4,978.
