Career
A love of animals and an interest in taking care of them is a good start for someone thinking about a career in veterinary medicine. People in the field have the ability to get along with people and can make decisions quickly in emergencies.
Job outlook
Employment of veterinarians is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations through 2016 mainly due to retirements and others who leave the labor force. Jobs as veterinary technicians are expected to grow much faster than average through 2016. Veterinary assistant positions are also expected to grow much faster than average.
What/Where the jobs are
Veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and veterinary assistants in animal clinics and hospitals, U.S. government meat and poultry inspectors, disease-control workers, epidemiologists, research assistants, animal food companies.
