Tigers avenge previous loss
MARSHALLTOWN, IA - Sophomore Chris Caird (England) poured in a career high 35 points to lead the Tigers (14-2) past Ellsworth Community College (9-6). With the win, MCC avenges an 80-79 earlier season loss to the Panthers on December 5th in Iowa Falls.
MCC scored on its first three possessions of the game and never trailed. The Tigers turned to the long ball, going 8 for 14 from behind the three point arc in the first half and finishing the game 12 of 23. Caird led the long ball attack hitting 7 of 10.
The Tigers took a 44-23 lead into the locker room at the half. MCC continued to build on the deficit going up by 32 points at the 15:56 mark in the second. The Panthers would cut the lead down 10 with 6 minutes remaining, but that is the closest the Tigers would allow Ellsworth to come.
Three other Tiger players finished in double figures: Sophomore Matej Delinac (Toronto, Canada) 16 points, freshman Cameron Robinson (Oxford, GA) 13 points and freshman Troidell Carter (Lilburn, Ga) with 11. Delinac pulled down a team high 6 boards for the Tigers.
The Tigers will play host to Northeast Community College (12-5) on Saturday, Jan. 12. Tip-off at the Student Activities Center is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
