Tiger Soccer Secures Third Place
SPENCER , IA – A goal by sophomore Javi Lopez (Granada, Spain), in the 47th minute of play would be all the Tiger soccer team (10-4-1, 7-3) would need to secure a third place finish in the Iowa Community College Conference standings.
MCC sophomore goalkeeper Alfredo Piedra (Columbus Junction, IA) held the Lakers scoreless, recording 3 saves on the day. MCC tallied 8 shots in the first half but were unable to score a goal until early in the second.
“I feel that we dominated completely with the time of possession and our scoring opportunities,” said head coach Rafael Martinez. “It was a great team performance. We are growing at the right time before playoffs.”
With the win, the Tigers will host a first round Region XI game on October 23 at 4 pm. The Tigers play their final regular season home match, hosting NJCAA II 11th ranked Iowa Central Community College on Wednesday, October 17. Match time is scheduled for 4 pm.
