Tiger Volleyball 1-3 at DMACC Invitational
BOONE, IA – The DMACC Invitational on Friday and Saturday would prove to be the toughest tournament of the season for the Tiger volleyball team (9-19, 2-2). MCC opened tournament play with a 3-0 setback to NJCAA II 5th ranked Butler Community College on Friday. MCC would suffer their second loss of the day 3-0 at the hands of NJCAA II 4th ranked Parkland Community College.
MCC faced previously ranked North Dakota State College of Science on Saturday, losing a tough battle 3-1. The Tigers finished the weekend capturing their only win of the weekend defeating Highland Community College 3-2.
"We saw some of our toughest opponents of the season," said head coach Chris Brees. "We played well against some very strong teams, showing some great progress in each match. I'm sure several of these teams will make nationals this season."
The Tigers were led offensively by sophomore Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA). Van Metre finished with weekend with 61 kills. Sophomore setter Tanya Literski (Athens, WI) dished out 134 assists on the weekend, including 50 assists against Highland Community College. Freshmen libero Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA), led the Tigers with 79 digs.
MCC will return home, hosting conference opponent Southeastern Community College on Wednesday for their annual “Dig Pink” night. Match time is scheduled for 7 pm at the Student Activities Center.
