Tigers Fall Short of Sweep
The MCC men's soccer (10-5-2, 7-4-1) team was able to hold Indian Hills Community College (6-9-4, 4-7-1) scoreless for the first half, but gave up two goals in the second falling to the Warriors 2-1.
Freshman Alex Galvan (San Antonio, TX) scored 14 minutes into play off an assist by freshmen Ignacio Bello (Saukville, WI). The tigers had several scoring opportunities in the half, but were unable to turn any of their additional ten shots into a goal. Sophomore goalkeeper, Alfredo Piedra (Columbus Junction, IA), recorded three saves in the half to keep the Warriors scoreless.
Indian Hills tied the match just three minutes into the second half of play. The Warriors would score their second goal at the 68 minute mark to take the lead. The Tigers had five shots in the second half, but were held scoreless.
MCC finishes third in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference standings, behind NJCAA Division I 4th ranked Iowa Western and 9th ranked Iowa Central.
The Tigers will host the first round of the Region XI tournament, Wednesday, October 24, taking on NIACC (4-10-1, 4-7-1). MCC holds a 2-0 record over the Trojans this season. Match time for Wednesday's contest is set for 3:00 pm.
