Tiger Harriers Prepare to Host Region XI Meet
Marshalltown Community College will host the 2012 NJCAA XI Cross Country Championship this Friday, October 26 on their home course. The women's race will get the morning started at 11:00 a.m., with the men to follow with a scheduled start time of 11:45 a.m.
MCC has seen a season plagued by injuries, but are hoping to continue to improve on personal best times. "It has been a tough year with injuries and keeping healthy," said head coach Jarret Heil. "What excites me about this team is each meet we are seeing improvement."
All but one Tiger runner has set a personal best time this season, led by freshman Nate Carr (Gilman, IA), who set the 8k school record 26:19 last week at the Mount Marty College Invitational. "I knew Carr would have an excellent shot at being All-Region, and he has put in the work to put himself in that position on Friday," said Heil. "Watching him move up in the front of the pack each meet has been exciting, but where we want the future of the program is 6 other guys moving up with him."
The Tiger men will need strong finishes by all runners as they face a tough field, including Iowa Western Community College. The Reivers won the 2012 ICCAC District XI Time Trial at the beginning of the season on the MCC course.
Due to injuries, freshman Macy Logan (Marshalltown, IA) will be the lone runner for the Tiger women. "Macy is shooting for a top 30 finish and a school record that she has been going for all season," concluded Heil.
Fans are encouraged to attend the event which is free to the public.
