Tigers Drop Conference Opener
MASON CITY, IA - The MCC women's basketball team (3-6, 0-1) was unable to overcome NIACC's (6-5, 1-0) pressure defense, falling to the Lakers 75-65 in Iowa Community College Conference action.
The Tigers had three players with double-doubles on the evening, but 34 turnovers would prove to be too much for their offense to overcome. MCC was led offensively with 19 points by freshman Mackenzie Gott (Oskaloosa, IA). Sophomores Latrice McMullen (Waterloo, IA) and Shana Lee (Milwaukee, WI) contributed 14 and 12 points for the Tigers.
McMullen pulled down a career high 19 boards for MCC, followed by 11 from Gott. Sophomore Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA) completed her double-double with 10 boards.
"We were making a lot of unforced turnovers," said head coach Alison Lacey. "We would put ourselves in a good position and then give the ball right back to them. When we have four people in double figures, we should be able to come up with a win."
The Tigers continue conference play traveling to Fort Dodge to take on Iowa Central Community College on Saturday, Dec. 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
