MCC Construction Program Accepting Proposals for 2010 2011 House Project

MARSHALLTOWN - Marshalltown Community College Construction Technology students want to build a house for you! Area residents have a unique opportunity to support the Construction Technology students at Marshalltown Community College while fulfilling a family goal at the same time.

MCC’s Construction Technology program is now accepting applications for the construction of a residential home. Applications will be accepted through Saturday, Feb. 27. MCC students will build the house during the August 2010 to May 2011 school year, supervised by instructor Russell Yarrow.

The current Marshalltown Community College Construction Technology students are building this house east of Marshalltown. The students will hold an open house in May to showcase their completed project. Applications for next year’s project are being accepted until Feb. 27.

The homeowner will act as his/her own general contractor for the project and will provide blueprints and make arrangements for foundation, electrical, heating and subcontractural work not instructed by the program. The college provides the expertise and labor for the required carpentry related construction. Costs of the materials are paid by the homeowner, as well as a small stipend for the college. Those arrangements are included in the agreement with the college.
