Volleyball 0-4 at Showcase
MARSHALLTOWN, IA - The MCC volleyball team finished out their conference season going 0-4, during this weekend's ICCAC Showcase. The Tigers fell to NJCAA Division II, 10th ranked DMACC (3-0) and 9th ranked Iowa Central Community College (3-0) on Friday. On Saturday, the Tigers found themselves on the losing end against Southwestern Community College (3-0) and Iowa Lakes Community College (3-1).
Sophomore outside hitter Mady Van Metre (Marshalltown, IA) led the Tigers offensively gathering 53 kills on the weekend, while freshman Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, IA) led the Tiger's defense, tallying 80 digs. Sophomore setter Tanya Literski (Athens, WI) recorded 120 assists.
"This was a weekend where we didn't play well as a team," said head coach Chris Brees. "We played well to begin Friday against DMACC, but we lost our focus as a team for the rest of the weekend. We do not have enough depth on this team to allow a lack of focus."
The Tigers finish the season 8th in Iowa Community College Conference play, qualifying them for this weeks Region XI Tournament. The Tigers will travel to Fort Dodge on Tuesday, Oct. 30, to play top seeded Iowa Central Community College. The Tigers lost 3-0 in their only meeting with the Tritons this season. Match time for Tuesday's contest is scheduled for 7 pm.
