Meet the Coach

Head Coach: Chris BreesChris Brees begins his first season as head volleyball coach at MCC. Brees looks to use his knowledge of the game and his ties to the coaching community throughout the Midwest to build a competitive exciting program. “I believe in the basic principles of hard work on the court and in the classroom,” Brees says. “I’m a volleyball coach as well as a life coach, I want my players to leave my program empowered to succeed as an individual.” Brees was a three year captain and letter winner for the Clarke College (University) men’s volleyball team from 1993-97. After graduation Brees entered the community college coaching ranks at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, Nebraska. From 1998-2001 as head coach, he led the Storm to three winning seasons and was named the 2000 NCCAC Coach of the Year. Returning to Iowa, he spent one season at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Brees guided his team to 2002 Midwest Classic Conference regular season championship. His efforts garnered him MCC 2002 Coach of the Year honors. From 2003-2005 Brees served as assistant volleyball coach and Director of Residence Life at Grand View College (University) in Des Moines, Iowa. Chris spent three seasons as assistant coach for a rebuilding Drake University program from 2008-2010. During his time at Drake the Bulldogs in 2009 made their first Missouri Valley Conference appearance since the 1998 season. In 2010 the Bulldogs returned to the Valley tournament posting a 23 win season, the most wins by a Bulldog team since 1996. As well as coaching at the collegiate level, Brees coaches for Iowa Power Volleyball Alliance out of Des Moines, Iowa. During his time with IPVA he has coached ages 15-18. A native of Marshalltown, Iowa, Brees earned his bachelor’s degree in Art and Communications from Clarke College in 1997. In addition to his coaching duties, Brees serves as Coordinator of Sports Information and Compliance for the MCC Campus. |
