NOTE: ALL assignments must include your name and title of assignment. For e-mail, the SUBJECT line should reference the title of assignment.

The chapter provides information on describing a mechanism, a common technical writing task. The chapter outlines two ways to describe mechanisms: describing a representative model or a specific model. Both descriptions include the following frames of reference: 1. function, 2. physical characteristics, and 3. parts. Note that in the the "parts" section, each part may be described by its particular function and physical characteristics.

The examples provided in the chapter are good models for the assignment described below. Your description should have a title, such as " A Description of _______" and begin with an introduction. In one example, a definition is used to begin. As always, use headings, lists, and any other white space providers for readability.

NOTE ABOUT PLAGIARISM:  Plagiarism is the use of someone else's intellectual property.  You may be tempted to borrow from a textbook or some other source.  It's important to avoid that temptation.
